The Australia-Maldives Friendship Association and the Australian High Commission have announced a program in collaboration, where the playground equipment in Australia that has been used but is still in good condition will be donated to Maldivian councils.
According to a circular published by the Australian High Commission, the program to donate the used equipment to councils that want it will be for the distribution of equipment that is not brand new. The equipment will be inspected and ensured it is in a usable condition. However, the High Commission said that some of the equipment may require minor repairs.
The circular goes on to say that a detailed plan in assembling the equipment will be given to councils that are interested.
Steps to be taken by councils:
- To arrange transport for equipment stored in the Male' region to the islands where they are to be used.
- To make the necessary repairs, prepare places the equipment will be kept and set them up.
The circular states that the equipment is to be taken by the councils that request to do so within one month of the equipment being sent to Maldives.
The circular further reads that it is the council's responsibility in checking whether the residents agree to the equipment, as it is something the councils themselves request. The Expression of Interest (EOI) that is to be submitted to the Australian High Commission by the councils that want the equipment is to include public consent.
The EOI should also include details regarding the places where the equipment will be kept, how the equipment will be repaired and maintained as well.
