Pediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal has stated that the most cases of the ongoing spread of measles are between the ages of 15 to 35, with four children having contracted measles. 

While sharing the statistics regarding measles cases in 2022 on social media, Dr. Faisal said that the highest number of people who contracted measles were those who were unvaccinated.

He also said that they are the ones who have the highest chance in contracting measles, with cases and rate of infection increasing due to a lack of vaccinations.

While the latest measles resurgence is seeing more than 72 cases, Faisal said that this includes four children, with the rest being aged between 15 to 35 years old.

And so, the doctor advised everyone in that age range to complete the two vaccine doses.

Due to the resurgence of measles, a disease that was eradicated in Maldives, shots for the MR vaccine are currently being offered.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that vaccination times at centers in atolls and islands will be announced by the centers themselves.

Measles was eradicated in Maldives in 2017. Even so, the disease was seen in expatriates in Maldives after 2017. However, the situation worsened this time around due to the disease spreading amongst Maldivians.

As measles cases have been on the rise, the HPA is conducting efforts in controlling the spread of the disease.

The HPA has requested those who have a fever and red spots on their body to seek medical attention at a hospital and to wear a mask when going to the hospital. They also requested those who were tested for measles on the chance they might have it, to isolate themselves until they get their results, and to not go to crowded places if they have symptoms.
