PNC stated today that voting will proceed in 131 island constituencies during its constituency elections scheduled to take place next Saturday.

At a press conference held today to provide the latest updates regarding the election, PNC Spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul stated that voting will proceed in constituencies where the number of candidates running for positions exceeds the number of seats to be elected.

While the deadline to apply for the election expired on the 30th of June, he noted that voting will take place across 131 island constituencies and that more than 2,500 candidates are contesting for these constituencies.

"I announce with great pleasure that as this election concludes across the Maldives, more than 2,500 individuals will be aligned in our activities in elected positions. This is a very significant achievement for us," Firuzul said.

While voting will be carried out in Male' as well as in the islands, the voters' list for this election has now been made public. Firuzul stated that in addition to submitting complaints regarding the list, the opportunity to submit complaints concerning various election-related matters will also be opened through the party's portal.

The basis for the PNC voters' list in this election is the registry of PNC members registered with the Elections Commission. Therefore, only members who were on the PNC registry at the Elections Commission by the 15th of last month will be eligible to vote in this election.

Positions to be elected for PNC constituencies include the Constituency President, Constituency Vice President, President of the Women's Wing, President of the Youth Wing, and the President of the Steering Committee.

While the PNC internal election is scheduled to be held next Saturday, the party's congress is set to take place from September 15 to 18.
