Police have arrested six individuals under a court order on suspicion of planning to engage in fights using sharp weapons in Male' and Hulhumale'.

According to police, a folding knife and MVR 39,695 in cash were recovered during a search operation, which was carried out at a guesthouse on Raiveri Hingun and its surrounding area on the night of July 2.

Those arrested include two 30-year-old men, one 34-year-old man, one 32-year-old man, one 23-year-old man and one 21-year-old man

Police said the arrests were made following intelligence suggesting preparations to carry out violent confrontations involving sharp weapons.

Four of the suspects have been remanded in custody for 15 days, while the remaining two were released under court-imposed conditions.
