The Civil Service Act was amended yesterday to include a 30 minute buffer for government staff who are unable to make it to work on time for various reasons.
As per the amendment, the buffer time is for the days civil service staff cannot make it to the office on time because of situations that may arise, allowing the adjustment of work times without any additional permission. The amendment also states that no time adjustments can be made past 30 minutes for any reason.
Additional details in the amendment:
- A buffer time of 30 minutes is set based on the official starting time of employees.
- Only 30 minutes from the official starting time can be given for staff to get to work on time even for special circumstances.
- The clock-out time for employees will be adjusted based on the time they got to work during the 30 minute buffer.
- If any staff shows up to work after the 30 minute buffer, they will be considered late.
However, some civil service employees are exempt from this. This includes staff responsible for opening and closing the office, staff on shift duty, people who work at mosques and employees who provide services directly to the public during official working hours.
The amendment also reads that the only way civil service employees can be exempted from this is by an institution making a submission to the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
