Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the development of Khulhudhuffushi airport runway project, for MVR 53.9 million.

Under the agreement signed at the regional headquarters office, MTCC would construct the runway while providing design and consultancy services, and also clean the area for airport development.

According to the Director General of Regional Airports Saami Ageel, MTCC is required to complete the 1.2 km runway within 160 days.

Land reclamation for the state funded Kulhudhuffushi airport development was the maiden project for MTCC’s newest dredger “Maha Jarraf”, it had reclaimed a total of 15 hectares, six from the island’s lagoon and nine from the island’s wetlands under the MVR 53.4 million project.

While the government had awarded the runway project to MTCC it had also contemplated on awarding the project to Maldives Road Development Cooperation (MRDC). Regional Airports had also stated that after evaluating the proposals from both companies the most economical proposal would be awarded the project.
