Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu stated today that the results of Key Stage students and students who recently completed their O-Levels are also very weak.

At a ceremony held today to release the Key Stage-3 2025 National Assessment of Learning Outcomes Report, the minister stated that previous assessments had already highlighted weak results in Mathematics.

He noted that to address this issue, in addition to conducting necessary training programs for mathematics teachers, the time allocated for Mathematics will be increased alongside changes brought to the Key Stage 1 curriculum.

"Looking at the results of the National Assessment of Learning Outcomes, the subject (Mathematics) results for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are weak. I have shared this information in various meetings, as well as with the public, constituency members, teachers, and principals," Shafeeu said.

"In Key Stage 3 as well, we have just seen the same weakness. Along with that, looking at the results of IGCSE and O-Levels, the results for Mathematics are weak." he said.

Furthermore, Minister Shafeeu stated that efforts are also underway to redesign textbooks in a way that generates students' interest in Mathematics.

The ministry has previously decided to increase teaching hours in schools due to students falling behind in Dhivehi, Islam, and Mathematics.
