Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed has announced that Maldives has pledged USD 50,000 as annual contribution to Palestine. 

The donation is pledged through the United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Naseer stated that supporting UNRWA is not just a budgetary decision, but rather an investment in preserving a peoples' dignity and protecting international rule-based order. 

In his address, Naseer also highlighted the challenges faced by the UNRWA, rejected the false accusations against the agency, and urged the international community to ensure sustained funding so the agency can continue to carry out its mandate. 

He reiterated Maldives' continued solidary with the Palestinian people. 

The Maldives has also earlier pledged USD 50,000 to UNRWA in 2024. 

Maldives also raised MVR 18.4 million and USD 49,800 through a 'Maldivians with Palestine' telethon, which has since been handed over to Palestine.
