Hamdhoon Rasheed was appointed as the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) on Sunday.

Hamdhoon, who is the head of public safety and security operations, was promoted from chief superintendent to ACP. He has been in service for over 20 years and had led several high-profile cases.

In addition to Hamdhoon, there are seven other ACP officers.

During the recent political upsurges in the Maldives, President Abdulla Yameen had appointed deputy commissioner Abdulla Nawaaz as acting police commissioner after removing Ahmed Areef and his successor Ahmed Saudhee from the post, one after the other within a 24-hour period.
