The Criminal Court has sentenced Haleemath Lamha to 15 years in prison for aiding Marvin S. Y. Vargas in the murder of his wife.

Mary Grace was the wife of Marvin S. Y. Vargas (now known as Yoosuf), with Yoosuf being charged with the murder in October 2021. Lamha was charged with knowingly participating in the murder.

Yoosuf was convicted today and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Shortly after, Lamha was sentenced to 15 years and 4 months in prison. However, as Lamha has spent 3 years, 5 months and 25 days in prison, the time she has to serve will be shortened by that amount.

Lamha was charged with intentional homicide, unauthorized possession of another individual's property and committing an act without permission.

The prosecution requested the maximum penalty be imposed on Lamha, as she had committed the crime when she was a nurse.

The prosecution highlighted that the murder was premeditated and carried out without compassion, resulting in Mary's child being left without any financial support and deprived of a mother's love. The prosecution stated that the purpose of murdering Mary was so that Lamha could pursue a relationship with Yoosuf.

Lamha's lawyer requested she be placed under house arrest or be penalized instead of a prison sentence. They also said that as her 58 year old mother lives alone, Lamha is someone who can provide educational tuition services to children and pursue a career as a seamstress to provide financial aid to her mother.

In regards to the sentence, Lamha's lawyer stated that as she has spent a long time in prison, and pointed out that she has the opportunity to request house arrest because of it. The lawyer said that it is not necessary to keep her in prison any longer.

Nevertheless, presiding Judge Muzammil Nasir ruled that there is no situation where Lamha's sentence can be changed, and that there is no situation where her sentence can be reduced.

Taking into account Lamha's role, the extent of her involvement and the attempt to conceal Mary's murder, the judge said that Lamha's punishment should be increased. The judge further stated that Lamha had the intent to murder Mary as well, and that Lamha was involved in that act to the highest degree.

And so, the judge ruled that Lamha is to receive a 15-year prison sentence for the crime of aiding an intentional murder. A 3-month prison sentence for the crime of unauthorized possession of another individual's property and a 1-month prison sentence for committing an act without permission was handed by the judge to Lamha.

According to charges pressed by the prosecution, Lamha, a former nurse at IGMH, was said to be having an affair with Yoosuf. The prosecution further stated that both of them had planned to murder Mary, and that Yoosuf filed a report that Mary had committed suicide by hanging. The prosecution stated in court that Mary's child was taken under the care of Lamha, and that she had taken the child to another house.
