Former President Mohamed Nasheed's supporters have begun expressing displeasure against former President Abdulla Yameen after Yameen stated that Nasheed is not working against the government now in the manner he used to in the past.

The three presidents, including Nasheed, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and Yameen, recently agreed to work together.

However, during one of PNF's consecutive series of headquarters meetings held last Saturday night, Yameen stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's remarks about the lack of a responsible opposition were inherent within themselves correct. Yameen added that those remarks were aimed at the MDP.

“What is being said is that there is no opposition activity taking place to the extent that it concerns me or makes it difficult for me to govern, he said. That is in reference to the MDP. They cannot even hold a protest, and they are no longer able to build the kind of pressure they once did by going to institutions such as the ACC,” Yameen said.

Yameen stated that the true face of the MDP is not visible now, and therefore, he understands that the President is talking about the MDP. Yameen also noted that he has been reflecting on this matter for some days.

"When President Nasheed was running for the chairmanship of MDP, he said that when we do this this way, then Muizzu will have to stay at home wearing a sarong (mundu), so today I ask, who is it that is staying at home wearing a sarong," Yameen said.

Responding to Yameen's remarks on social media, some activists stated that the MDP will function organized as a responsible opposition party and that it is a party larger than a "sitting room".

Some people who commented on social media also stated that Yameen's remarks were correct.

While Yameen's criticism was aimed at Nasheed and the MDP, the three former presidents have not done much work together after appointing representatives for discussions on how they will carry out their joint efforts.
