The prosecution has requested the High Court the two acquitted individuals charged by the state in the case of a man stabbed to death inside a shop in Malé be remanded.

The state had pressed charges against Ibrahim Faih Nizam of Rahdhebaige, S. Maradhoo-Feydhoo, and Siruhaan Ali of Guleynooranmaage, Th. Gaadhiffushi, for the February 2023 murder of Mohamed Ahmed Didi of Irumeezu, S. Hithadhoo, while he was inside a shop on Muranga Magu in Maafannu.

According to the verdict heard in April, overall, the state submitted only circumstantial evidence against the two individuals. While direct testimony was unavailable, the state submitted matters that could lead to an inference of guilt; however, the verdict stated that the links in the chain of evidence were not connected.

When the individuals were acquitted by the Criminal Court, the prosecution appealed the ruling in the High Court, with the prosecution requesting they be remanded during today's appeal hearing in the High Court.

The prosecution stated that they are to be remanded due to them being accused of a dangerous crime and that sufficient evidence to prove it had been submitted. They also highlighted that the two individuals are a danger to society.

While the request for remand has been filed, Siruhaan and Faih requested lawyers be assigned to them to make their case. They also requested four months to gather funds in paying for the lawyers due to high legal fees.

However, the presiding judge's bench gave them a period of 10 days, with the two individuals to represent themselves if they do not acquire the services of a lawyer within that time frame.
