Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) campuses in Male' and Hulhumale' have begun studies under a two-session system following an increase in student enrolment.

The new arrangement came into effect on 14 July.

Hulhumale' CHSE has enrolled 830 new Grade 11 students this year, bringing the total student population to about 2,000.

The Male' campus currently has 1,237 students.

The increase in enrolment follows changes to admission criteria introduced last year to expand access to higher secondary education.

Under the revised policy, students who pass at least three subjects, and up to five subjects, in either the O-Level or BTEC examinations are eligible for admission to Grades 11 and 12.

The Hulhumale' CHSE campus was opened to increase A-Level capacity, and the long-serving CHSE campus in Male' was initially closed following the move.

However, the Male' campus was later reopened to accommodate the growing number of students seeking A-Level education.

In addition to the expansion of CHSE, more schools across the Maldives have begun offering A-Level programmes this academic year as part.
