President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated today that the names of those who received flats and land plots under this government's first Male' area housing scheme will be announced within the year.
Speaking at the weekly presidential press briefing held this morning, President Muizzu said that the government is prioritizing announcing the list of flat recipients while ensuring that the process remains free of any undue influence.
He asserted that this government would ensure the work is completed in a manner that will give no cause for any such concerns, adding that housing in this government is not something that is issued 'only to specific persons'.
President Muizzu said that flats and land plots are issued based on applications submitted, after verifying the veracity of the information provided and ensuring that it is in line with eligibility criteria. He assured that the government will dedicate time and effort to ensure the process is undertaken properly.
The President said that at this time, he is unable to name a specific date by which flats will be handed over. However, relevant authorities are working on doing so day and night, he added.
Land plots will be issued once reclamation of Rasmale' is complete, the President said, revealing that 60 percent of reclamation has been completed so far. The work faced delays due to the rise in fuel prices, he explained. Although the work was previously conducted with three dredgers, the work will now resume with just two, the President stated.
Reclamation of Rasmale' is however projected to reach completion by the end of the year, according to the President. By then, the list will be verified, and recipients will be notified, he said.
"We are going to be using two dredgers now because we must manage costs. However, our target is to complete reclamation latest by the end of the year. So we believe it will be finished in the next six months or so," President Muizzu said.
As for flats, the President said that flats in the Male' area will be completed by mid-2028. Flat recipients will be announced within the year, he said.
