President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced today that construction of the 'Boahiyaavahikan Enmenah' [Housing for All] flats being built by the BML Affordable Home Leasing Company is set to begin in the coming month. 

Speaking at the weekly presidential press briefing held this morning, President Muizzu said that he aims to complete development of the flats and hand them over to recipients within this term as he has earlier pledged. 

He stated that laying the foundation for all except one BML project will commence within the next month.

"BML's finance housing projects. Everything that needs to be done to begin practical work of these projects, when I checked this morning, I learned that physical work will begin on all except one of these projects next month," the President said. 

The President announced that even at present, BML is undertaking preparatory work to facilitate the commencement of the project. 

Under the government's Affordable Housing Scheme, flats will be built in Hulhumale' Phases 1 and 3, as well as Vilimale'. The foundation has now been laid for 3,260 flats being built by BML through contracting to various companies. 

Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) announced earlier this work that the government has decided to add an additional 710 flats to the BML housing project. The decision was made as BML has the capacity to implement a project at that scale, he said. 

BML will be giving out the flats on a lease-to-own model. The bank estimates that the flats will reach completion by mid-2028.
