The company has opened applications for the position of Technical Program Manager to manage the operations of the submarine cable landing station being established in Addu.
According to the advertisement posted on Google Careers, the role of the person selected for this position is to oversee all work related to the establishment of the Cable Landing Station (CLS) and Outside Plant Operations (OSP) specific to the Indian Ocean region, and to handle communications between relevant parties.
According to Google's announcement, the individual in this position will also have to oversee the work carried out by the project's suppliers and the consortium formed for the project, as well as tasks outsourced to other companies.
The announcement also states that until the cable station is completed and comes into operation, the person in this position will serve as the representative communicating on behalf of Google with consortium partners and telecom operators, and will handle all financial and regulatory matters.
Job Requirements
According to Google's announcement, the minimum qualifications required for a person applying for this position are:
- Having qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, holding a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, or possessing equivalent work experience.
- Eight years of experience in the field of program management.
- Experience in managing operational facilities.
In addition to the minimum requirements, Google's announcement also lists qualifications that preferred candidates should possess. These are:
- Holding a master's degree in the fields of Industrial Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, or Reliability Engineering.
- Eight years of experience in managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
- Experience in operating submarine cable systems.
- Possessing skills in budget management, agreement negotiation, time management, and leadership.
Google announced its decision to establish an international submarine cable landing station and a network facility in Addu Hithadhoo in November of last year.
