Mihaaru held its tenth anniversary celebrations last night.

Former Haveeru Chairman Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain was the Guest of Honour at the event held at Meerumaa Hall. He was accompanied by MIhaaru Executive Director Vaail Zahir Hussain.

Staff who have been with Mihaaru over the past ten years were presented a plaque in recognition of their service.

A lucky draw saw four employees being awarded Umrah trips. The four lucky winners were two Mihaaru editors Ismail Naseer, Ahmed Hamdhoon, journalist Asima Nizar and staff Mohamed Niyaz.

Sponsors also offered various other prizes to staff, granted through another lucky draw. The prizes included trips to Colombo, trips to resorts, and many valuable items.

A video report was shown at the event, highlighting the outlet's journey over the past decade. The event concluded with a festive performance of 'boduberu'.

Mihaaru was established on May 24, 2016 after the long-serving Haveeru was shut down on March 31, 2016.

Mihaaru is currently the only printed newspaper in the country.
