A suspect has been sentenced to life in prison in a drug case due to their father's testimony.

A police operation in a Shaviyani Atoll island saw a house search resulting in the arrest of an individual, with them being charged with diamorphine trafficking.

The island magistrate court's ruling in the case reads that the elements of the crime had been proven against them, with the 25 year old being sentenced to life in prison.

The room the accused lived in had nine grams of diamorphine.

The police entered to search the premises with the aid of the father of the accused. The father had given his testimony in court for the prosecution as well. His testimony stated that while he had been there when the search started, he had said he cannot stay and left.

While the father was giving his testimony, he said that the house and the room where the drugs were found is where his son lives. 

Along with the father, the younger sister, brother-in-law and sister-in-law of the accused gave their testimonies as well.

The accused who has been sentenced to life in prison confessed in court that they were using diamorphine.

Along with diamorphine trafficking and usage, the accused was charged with drug sales as well. The case is being heard at HA. Uligamu Magistrate Court.
