Police today destroyed a large quantity of liquor that had been seized in various operations and kept in police custody.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the liquor destroyed included items from cases that had completed the required analysis process, as well as liquor seized by the Drug Enforcement Department, Tourist Police and Hulhumale' Police Station in cases where no suspects had been identified.

Police said the destroyed items were linked to 34 cases and included:
- 364 branded bottles of liquor
- 87 PET bottles containing liquor
- 25 bottles of beer
- Seven other related items
Other items destroyed included cloth bags used in connection with the seizures.
The destruction was carried out at Dhoonidhoo in accordance with regulations governing the disposal of liquor and liquor-related confiscated items. Police said the process was overseen by an officer of inspector rank or above and conducted by a team of officers with the required training and expertise.

Maldives Police Service regularly destroys confiscated liquor and other prohibited substances after legal and administrative procedures have been completed.
In April, authorities also destroyed more than 185 kilograms of illicit drugs seized in various operations.
