The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has stated 23 principals had been changed to islands they were not supposed to work at by the time the current government took office, and that more than 200 complaints had been filed by teachers regarding the issue due to steps linked to political ideology that were taken.

While answering a question from Baarah Constituency MP Ibrahim Shujau during today's Parliament sitting, the minister said that the issue has been corrected and the staff are where they are supposed to be. He also said that the current government has not taken any steps linked to political ideology against teachers and principals.

"The previous government had changed around 23 principals to islands they should not have been at by the time I took on my current position and when the current government took office, but the issue has been rectified and the staff are where they should be," said Shafeeu.

"Along with that, we have received more than 200 complaints from teachers, stating that steps were taken against them due to a difference in political opinion."

Minister Shafeeu went on to say that the current government has not taken such an action, and that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has always instructed to not take any unfair steps against staff.

Shafeeu said that the Education Ministry has been acting as per President Muizzu's instructions and that no such steps have been taken.

While questioning the minister, Shujau alleged that the MDP government had issued many warnings to teachers, taken statements and dismissed them from their positions as well. With those allegations, Shujau asked whether the current government has taken any such steps.

"As of now, no steps have been taken against any teacher or principal due to a difference in political opinion. Even if they are against the government, we have not taken any steps against a principal," as was said by the minister.

The Education Minister has been produced to the Parliament to answer a question from Kendhoo Constituency MP Mauroof Zakir regarding the Iskandhar School principal prohibiting the school teachers union that was registered in being active.

While answering the question, the minister said that he has informed Iskandhar School management that he has denied the workers union that the school's teachers have worked to register due to the inclusion of a state institution's name.

While answering a question from Kendhoo Constituency MP Mauroof Zakir during Parliament sitting, the minister said that including a state institution's name or including such a name for a union that may cause confusion is not allowed as per the Industrial Relations Act. The minister went on to say that aside from public companies, schools have certain qualities and are places that have a lot of restrictions placed on them.
