As the felling of large trees in HA. Baarah's forest in order to plant varieties of banana trees has grown, the island council has requested a stop to it.

As per an announcement from Baarah Council, the recent felling of large trees in the island's forest to plant banana tree varieties has become an issue.

The announcement reads that it is in violation of Article 2 of Maldives' "Rural Green and Forestry Protection and Maintenance Regulation".

The council went on to say that banana tree varieties should be planted in the island after getting approval from the council and in an area determined by the council as well.

Baarah Council has repeatedly directed the felling of trees be stopped, and that steps will be taken within the rules and regulation against those who do it.

The council said that banana tree varieties that have been planted after felling large trees are to be removed within 20 days from now. They also said that they will take action in line with the regulation if banana trees have not been removed after 20 days.

The naturally beautiful Baarah is home to old and large trees.
