UWC has awarded scholarships to four students this year, offering them the opportunity to pursue higher secondary education at United World Colleges (UWCs) abroad.

The selected students will undertake the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme at UWC campuses in Japan, Armenia, Eswatini and the United States.

The recipients of this year's scholarships are:

UWC is a global educational movement comprising 18 colleges around the world. The IB Diploma Programme is internationally recognized, considered equivalent to A-level qualifications and accepted by universities worldwide, including those recognized by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.

"The education provided by UWC is a unique and valuable opportunity for students to develop their character, broaden their perspectives and strengthen their skills," said Izman Suhail, selections coordinator for UWC Maldives.

"It also provides an important pathway for students seeking higher education opportunities."

UWC Maldives serves as the national committee representing UWC schools in the Maldives. The scholarship programme is supported by the Alifulhuthu Foundation and the UWC International organization, and is offered annually to Grade 10 students.

Since the programme began in 2001, more than 70 Maldivian students have studied at UWC colleges on scholarship. According to UWC Maldives, nearly all graduates have gone on to secure additional scholarships for higher education, with many continuing their studies at universities in the United States.

Three Maldivian students are currently studying at UWC colleges in Canada, India and Hong Kong under the scholarship programme.

In addition, two students from Germany and China who completed their studies in the Maldives in May have secured further higher education opportunities at universities in the United States.
