The third phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu modernization project, which includes road widening from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Presidential Jetty, will be completed before 26 July, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

Construction work on the section began on 23 March.

MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhy told Mihaaru News that levelling and asphalt-laying works are expected to be completed by the end of this month, with all remaining works scheduled for completion before 26 July.

“The works will definitely be completed by July 26,” Saudhy said, adding that a decision on when the road will be opened to the public has not yet been made.

MTCC said last week that sewerage and water service connections under the first segment of the project had been fully completed. The company added that 90 percent of the main water pipeline works have been finished, while installation of stormwater catchpits and cable junctions is expected to be completed within a week.

According to the company, subgrading works for Segment Three are set to begin, while pavement construction and streetlight installation are already underway.

Male' City Council has divided the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project into several segments. The first phase covers the area between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and Fishermen’s Park, which was closed to facilitate construction.

Following completion of that section, works commenced on the stretch between Fishermen’s Park and Jetty No. 5, which was closed from 30 March until the completion of construction.

The project involves upgrading and widening the road from the North Harbour area to Republic Square. Authorities say the completed sections have already eased traffic congestion along the route.

Boduthakurufaanu Magu modernization project is being funded through the state budget at a cost of MVR 144 million and is scheduled for completion within 455 days.
