Utility services in all inhabited islands of Meemu Atoll have been officially transferred from Fenaka Corporation to State Electric Company Limited (Stelco).

Stelco announced on social media that it has formally assumed responsibility for power generation and utility services in the islands of Dhiggaru, Kolhufushi, Madifushi, Muli, Naalaafushi, Raiymandhoo and Veyvah.

The handover agreement was signed during a ceremony held at Stelco’s head office.

Managing Director Ali Azwar signed the agreement on behalf of Stelco, while Managing Director Mohamed Afeef Hussain signed on behalf of Fenaka.

The islands had previously received utility services from Fenaka. According to Stelco, the transfer forms part of broader government efforts to improve public utility services.

The decision to transfer utility services in selected atolls from Fenaka to Stelco was announced in April last year. The restructuring covers islands in Meemu, Baa and Laamu atolls.
