Maldives Immigration has launched passport services in Dharavandhoo, expanding access to passport collection facilities in the atoll.

The service was officially inaugurated on Sunday morning by Ahmed Waheed, Interim Head of Immigration and Chief Principal Immigration Officer.

The launch ceremony was attended by Ali Sameeh, members of the Dharavandhoo Council, residents of the island and immigration officials. Passports were also presented to the first two recipients of the service during the event.

Immigration said residents seeking passports can apply online through the Imuga portal and select either Dharavandhoo or Eydhafushi as their preferred collection point.

According to the agency, passport services are now available in every atoll of the country. Additional collection points have also been introduced on selected islands based on demand for the service.

The expansion of passport and national identity card services across all atolls was one of the pledges made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The government announced the completion of that commitment in October last year.
