President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the Male' City Council is obstructing the government's efforts to construct a new building that includes a new fish market and other facilities to replace the current fish market in Male', but a solution will be found for the matter.
Responding to a question from "Mihaaru News" in the second episode of "The Pulse" podcast brought by the President's Office, the President stated that it has now been four months since a party was found to construct the building and the necessary funds were arranged through the Bank of Maldives (BML), and all the work required from the government's side to start the project has been completed. However, he stated that the work is delayed and cannot begin because the Male' City Council has not handed over the designated land to the government.
"We have been ready for about four months, just because the council has not handed over the place. So this is very disappointing. Showing various excuses and showing various pretexts, (the City Council) has not shown any way for it to happen at all," the President said.
"However, God willing, we will bring a solution to it."
The President also stated that no party will gain any benefit by obstructing the work the government intends to do and the fulfillment of promises made to the citizens.

He stated that the building being planned for construction in the area where the local market is currently located is a building that will facilitate many activities carried out in that area and provide a holistic solution.
At the most recently held City Council meeting, Male' Mayor Adam Azim stated that the Ministry of Infrastructure had sent a letter requesting the handover of the land to the Ministry of Fisheries to construct the fish market. Deciding on the matter at the council meeting, the Mayor stated that it was a place signed with two companies to be built during the previous term.
Mayor Azim stated that the land cannot be given to another party without first terminating that contract. He also stated that all information regarding this matter would have been shared with the relevant government institutions.
