North Galolhu Constituency MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has requested the Parliament hold the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) accountable due to delays in paying the allowances for disabled persons.

In a letter sent to the Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla yesterday, MP Ibrahim wrote that NSPA has not been depositing the financial benefits being provided by the state to disabled persons and those with special needs in a timely manner.

MP Ibrahim also wrote that it is the only financial resource that many special needs people depend on for their medicine and in meeting their essential needs, and that they would face financial and mental strains due to the delay in the allowances.

"...and so I request this matter be submitted to the relevant Parliament committee, and to hold NSPA and the relevant government institutions accountable," wrote Ibrahim in the letter.

Ibrahim also requested in the letter that the Parliament should encourage the assurance of a sustainable system where financial benefits are deposited towards disabled persons and those with special needs in a timely manner.
