The Sh. Kanditheemu Council today appealed to people to dress in a manner that does not contradict the religion of Islam when out in public places.
In a post made on social media, the island's council stated that it is a friendly community built upon noble Islamic principles and beautiful Maldivian customs.
Therefore, an appeal was made to wear modest clothing that does not contradict Islamic and cultural standards when on the streets and in public places of Kanditheemu.
In islands where local tourism is widely practiced, councils put up notices in the islands informing tourists to dress in accordance with Maldivian culture.
However, such notifications are not commonly directed at Maldivians.
