The mosque constructed in Addu Hulhudhoo by the Order of Distinguished Honor of Muleege laureate and head of Damas company, Mohamed Solih (Dims Solih), was opened today.

"Masjid Zulaikha Mohamed," built in Solih's native island of Hulhudhoo, was officially opened by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Solih and members of his family participated in the special ceremony held in Hulhudhoo this afternoon to open the mosque.

Highlighting that Solih had constructed a mosque as a waqf for Almighty Allah on his own private property, Minister Shaheem stated that this serves as an excellent lesson for today's younger generation.

The mosque has a capacity to accommodate 200 people performing prayers at one time.

Solih was conferred the Order of Distinguished honor of Muleege during the official function held on November 11 last year on the occasion of Republic Day.

Solih is an individual who entered the business sector 43 years ago in 1983 and still remains steadfast in the industry.

He initiated a general trading business under the name "Dims," operating businesses in hardware, resort supplies, duty-free shops, bonded warehouses, and furniture. In addition to this, he imported and sold Yanmar engines and spare parts, offering them on installment bases.

Solih served in the British Royal Air Force for about 16 years during the period the British were stationed in Addu Gan. Following that, he moved to Male' in 1978, initiated cargo clearance and construction sector works, and officially entered the business arena.

Solih established the Dims company—renowned in the Maldivian business sector—in 1983 by partnering with his close friend, Ibrahim Mohamed Didi (Simdi Didi). It was one of the most famous names in the retail/wholesale trade and tourism sectors in the Maldives at the time.

However, after running the Dims company for 17 years, Solih and Didi initiated two separate businesses. The name decided for Solih's company was Damas.
