First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called on eligible individuals to donate blood, describing it as an act of generosity that serves humanity and brings blessings regardless of a person’s financial means.

She made the remarks at an official reception last night at the Islamic Centre to mark World Blood Donor Day.

In her address, the First Lady emphasised the importance of recognising voluntary blood donors, describing them as exceptional individuals whose contributions help save lives and strengthen society.

She said the annual observance of World Blood Donor Day serves to honour voluntary donors, encourage selfless service, and promote values of compassion, kindness and mutual respect.

First Lady Sajidha also encouraged those who may be hesitant to donate blood to overcome their fears and take part in what she described as a meaningful humanitarian service that brings fulfilment through helping others.

At the ceremony, commemorative shields and certificates were presented to long-serving blood donors, newly eligible 18-year-old first-time donors, and organizations that hosted the highest number of blood donation camps.

Recognition was also given to individuals with the highest number of donations, including recipients of a Gold Award for long-term and consistent blood donation.

Lifetime Contribution Awards were presented to individuals in recognition of their sustained commitment to voluntary blood donation over many years.

Health professionals and blood donors attended the ceremony.

World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on 14 June to recognize the contribution of voluntary donors and raise awareness of the importance of safe blood donation.
