Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into an alleged salary fraud scheme at a school that is reported to have continued for five years.

The case involves three school employees who were dismissed after being accused of receiving salary payments under the name of another employee.

An ACC media official speaking with Mihaaru News today said that the commission has opened an investigation into the matter.

No further details were disclosed as the case remains under investigation.

Civil Service Commission (CSC) decided to dismiss three employees; the school's administrator, human resources manager and budget officer following an investigation into the allegations.

Mihaaru News reported that the scheme involved the salary of a foreign employee who had left Maldives.

A source familiar with the case alleged that after the employee departed, another name was inserted into the payroll system in his place, with salary payments subsequently transferred to accounts linked to relatives of the budget officer.

The source claimed that approximately MVR 1.5 million was paid out under the former employee's name over a five-year period.

The matter reportedly came to light during a random audit of schools conducted by the Ministry of Education.
