The operating company of Nuai Maldives Kunavashi Resort, located in V. Atoll, has been fined MVR 20,000 for violating Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations during the construction of a seaplane platform.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stated that prior permission must be obtained from the authority before commencing practical work on projects that are not specified in the EIA regulations but could cause significant changes or adverse impacts on the environment.

However, the statement noted that the Chinese company operating the resort, CJL Investment Private Limited, had proceeded with the installation of a seaplane platform at Kunavashi without completing the EIA processes and before receiving authorization from the authority.

Consequently, because the company violated the EIA regulations and since it is the first time the offense was committed, the authority stated that the company has been fined MVR 20,000.

The authority has instructed the company to pay the fine amount within 30 days.

Furthermore, the authority stated that CJL Investment Private Limited has been advised not to proceed with any ongoing projects without fully completing the phases outlined in the EIA regulations and ensuring compliance with those rules.
