President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated today that the progress and stability of Maldivians depend on the unity and brotherhood among the citizens, and that the most important lesson to be derived from the Hijra (migration) made by the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and his companions from Mecca to Medina is unity.
In his message on the occasion of the beginning of the New Hijri Year, the President said that the exemplary friendship, compassion, and noble spirit of mutual assistance shown years ago by the Ansar (helpers) of Medina and the Muhajirun (emigrants) must be revived today in the tiny Maldivian society. He added that setting aside political and social differences and divisions, and prioritizing national interest above all else, is the most important lesson to be learned from the occasion of the beginning of the New Hijri Year celebrated today.
"The progress and stability of the Maldivian nation depend on the unity and brotherhood among us. The exemplary friendship, compassion, and noble spirit of mutual assistance shown years ago by the Ansar of Medina and the Muhajirun must be revived today in this tiny Maldivian society of ours," the President said in the message.
He stated that a nation can be built and developed only when everyone's hearts are pure and they join hands to move towards a single goal, and that the determination today should be to reform ourselves and the community, steer clear of all undesirable things, and migrate with heart and soul towards the path of righteousness. He further stated that the government's greatest policy is to build a generation loyal to the religion and the nation, raised upon the foundation of the authentic Islamic faith and beautiful Maldivian character. According to him, that is also one of the most important goals of the government.
The President noted that the one hundred percent Islamic unity existing among Maldivians is the greatest strength of Maldivians.
"Therefore, this government will always work to protect the noble Islamic principles, uphold the independence and sovereignty of the nation, and ensure justice and equality for all citizens. I extend that assurance to the beloved Maldivian citizens on this occasion as well," the President said.
In the message, he also stated that this beginning New Year is a new opportunity to restore the country's economy and strengthen the social fabric, and that the various challenges facing the world can be overcome by working with diligence and industriousness alongside new innovations.
He appealed to all citizens to work together with a renewed determination to maintain Islamic principles and Maldivian culture, and to take the Maldives to new heights economically and socially.
"At the same time, I remind you to remain steadfast in praying for our brothers and sisters who are suffering in various parts of the world, especially in the land of Palestine," the President said.
