Under the Housing Development Corporation's (HDC) waste management operations, the corporation has collected 521 metric tonnes of waste from public areas in Hulhumale' from February 2026 until May 2026.

According to the statistics HDC gave to Mihaaru News, they have collected 521 metric tonnes of waste from public areas in Hulhumale' from 20th February 2026 until the end of May 2026.

The most amount waste they have collected was between 21st April to 20th May. Within that time, they collected 346 metric tonnes of waste.

As per HDC, they have combined efforts and conducted special activities with the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) in strengthening waste management efforts. In the effort conducted with WAMCO along with 36 HDC staff, they have managed to clean various areas in Hulhumale' of 146 tonnes of waste.

HDC continues to keep places with a population such as Hulhumale' clean, and is working on different angles to find a permanent solution to the waste issue.

Waste being thrown in parts of Hulhumale' is a big issue, such as the beach, parks, residences and roads. Because waste is thrown into the Hulhumale' harbor area and lagoon, those areas have turned into garbage dumps, with HDC staff having worked to collect the waste on multiple occasions.

HDC has urged everyone to be show civic responsibility by not throwing waste onto the roads and public areas, and to work together with them in keeping Hulhumale' a waste-free space.
