Last night, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu went into detail about what he described are destructive beliefs, and the differences between his "national" belief and destructive beliefs.
During the ceremony held at Dh. Meedhoo to celebrate the People's National Congress' victory in the island during the Local Council Election, President Muizzu said that ever since the creation of PNC until now, PNC is the party that has gained the most public support and that it is the party the public has the most trust in. The President said that the party's belief is to move forward as a country with religion as a priority, and that the current government will move forward based on that belief.
"Hopefully, this government is and will move forward based on this belief. By prioritizing religion, establishing peace in the nation by supporting the religion with the enforcement of strong policies, achieving development in all aspects and by enforcing policies that will ensure protection in all aspects," said the President.
According to President Muizzu, that is the work the government has done in the last two and a half years. He went on to say that there have been situations where the country almost lost its freedom and that it was not that long ago. The President went on to criticize the policies of previous presidents.
"In the past, we would always bend to another country. This is the truth. Political connections with other countries would be severed, Maldives would leave international organizations. This is what has happened over the past two to three governments," stated the President.
These situations have occurred during former President Abdulla Yameen's government. At the time, Maldives cut political ties with Qatar and Iran, with Maldives leaving the Commonwealth as well.
Afterwards, President Muizzu criticized the policies in place during former President Mohamed Nasheed's government.
"The only exemption is Israel. This is not what has happened previously, not so long ago, we have seen Maldives be close with Israel," as was said by the President.
This was stopped by the citizens taking to the streets and that it occurred due to destructive beliefs, said the President.
President Muizzu criticized without speaking Nasheed's name, and said that the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) first government brought about policies that strayed from the religion.
"Policies from MDP's first government saw a policy where they tried to secure an alternative narrative, a policy where they wanted the opposite of what was spoken by religious scholars," said the President.
