Male' City Council has appealed to everyone to not make use of the Rasfannu beach as there has been an oil spill.

As per a post on X, the council stated that the area of the oil spill is currently closed off. The council also appealed to everyone to not make use of that area until it has been cleaned up.

It is unclear as to how the oil spill occurred.

It is likely that it was carried over by ocean currents from where the spill originally occurred. In the past, other areas of the beach have been closed off to be cleaned due to oil spills.

The swimming area in Rasfannu was repaired and reopened on Friday.

The repair project was conducted by MTCC.
