President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated tonight that during both terms that MDP governed, they turned Arabiyya School and its students into refugees.
Speaking at a function held on the island to celebrate the ruling PNC winning the Dh. Meedhoo Council President's seat, the President said that the citizens had been presented with two paths. Those being the path of damage and destruction, and the path of success.
The President noted that the MDP administrations maintained a "destructive" ideology.
In that regard, he stated that eliminating Arabic Islamic education was how the destructive ideology operated, and that starting from the first MDP government through the second one, Arabiyya School was demolished to eliminate Arabic Islamic education.
"Eliminating Arabic Islamic education was how this destructive ideology operated. Demolishing Arabiyya starting from MDP's first government, didn't they leave them stranded on the streets? They turned the students and parents of Arabiyya School into refugees," the President said.
However, the President noted that through the constructive ideology maintained by this government, a permanent large plot of land has been arranged for Arabiyya School, the school is being built, and teaching will commence in the upcoming academic year.
Furthermore, the President stated in his speech that the ideology of PNC is a very strong and unshakeable ideology, which prioritizes the Islamic religion and the nation, and that this ideology will bring victory to Islam, stability, development, and safety.
The Arabiyya School on Chaandhanee Magu was a facility brought into use 12 years ago in 2013. The pillars of that building had cracked extensively. Consequently, the building was determined to be unsafe for students to use, and the school's classes were relocated to another facility in January 2023.
Following that, the facility was utilized as a warehouse to store goods for the Elections Commission and the Ministry of Education. Another section was used to operate the Scout Association and the Cadet office. However, all those spaces have now been vacated and demolition has commenced.
Although the previous government decided to build Arabiyya School to 6 storeys, this government has decided to construct the school as a 10-storey building. Contracted to RCC, the building is scheduled to be constructed with all facilities required for a school, including 42 classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, 4 lifts, alongside underground parking.
