Former President Mohamed Nasheed has met with Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem following his victory in the MDP chairperson election.

Nasheed won Friday's election by a wide margin, securing more than 21,000 votes compared with Meekail's 9,000 votes.

After officially assuming the role of MDP chairperson today, Nasheed met with Meekail and praised his performance during the campaign.

According to Nasheed, Meekail ran a strong campaign and put up a good fight throughout the election.

Nasheed had also commended Meekail during post-election celebrations, describing his courage and efforts as admirable and encouraging young people to follow his example.

In a post on X following the election, Meekail said he had called Nasheed shortly after the result was announced to congratulate him on the victory.

He added that the party would move forward with renewed determination to win the 2028 presidential election.

Nasheed also met former MDP chairperson Fayyaz Ismail and Male' City Mayor Adam Azim today. He has also said that he will meet former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well.

Meekail's campaign was backed by supporters aligned with Solih, while Nasheed campaigned alongside Fayyaz under the slogan "Bodu Badhalu" (Big Change).
