A Yellow Alert has been issued across islands in northern and central atolls due to thunderstorm and rainfall forecasts.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) announced a forecast issuing a Yellow Alert from Baa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll after a White Alert this morning, citing thunderstorms with gusts and torrential rainfall.

While they estimate that islands in the region will experience thunderstorms with gusts and torrential rainfall, MET also estimates that gusts of 40 miles per hour and rough seas are to be expected.

The alert was issued at 12:45pm and will persist until 5:00pm.

The MET's forecast includes squalls across all of Maldives for the next 24 hours.

While Male' has been experiencing rainfall today, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) is working to drain the flooding caused by the rain on the roads of Male'.
