Senior Police Sergeant Ahmed Asif, who died during a police operation at sea on Wednesday, was laid to rest with full honors last night.
Asif, 33, was reported missing during an anti-drug operation in Alifu Alifu Atoll late on Wednesday night. He was among officers stationed aboard Police Launch 57 at the time of the incident.
His body was later brought to Male', where funeral prayers were held after Isha prayers at the Islamic Centre.
He was then buried with full police honors at the Aa Sahara cemetery.
Asif had served in the Maldives Police Service for more than 14 years and was involved in a number of major operations during his caree
At the time of his death, he was serving as an operations team leader in the Drug Enforcement/Counter Narcotics Operations unit.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
