A power cable used for the sound system at Masjid Al-Sultan Al-Adil on Majeedhee Magu was stolen yesterday, according to the Male' City Council.

The mosque is located adjacent to the Heenamaage parking area.

The council said the stolen cable, measuring about 50 feet in length, was used to operate the mosque's sound system. As a result, the system could not be used following the theft.

According to the council, work was underway to reinstall a replacement cable before noon prayers.

The incident has been reported to police for investigation.

Theft from mosques remains an occasional issue in the Maldives.

Commenting on the incident, Male' City Mayor Adam Azim described theft from places of worship as a highly uncivilized act and called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable.
