Finance Minister Hassan Zareer has been appointed as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA).

According to the Decentralization Act, the President of the LGA is appointed by the President. The last person to hold this position was former Finance Minister Moosa Zameer.

However, following Zameer's resignation from the post, Zareer was appointed to that position, and he has now been appointed as the President of the LGA as well.

Zareer, who has attained higher education in the fields of finance and accounting, has previously worked at the Ministry of Finance and the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) as well.

The first Finance Minister of this administration was Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq. Along with changes brought to the cabinet, he resigned in September 2024. Following that, the position was filled by Zameer.

The first person appointed by this administration as the President of the LGA was Adam Shareef, the minister for the newly formed Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works. However, during subsequent changes brought to the cabinet, that ministry was dissolved.
