Maldives Customs has seized 8kg of hashish oil that was smuggled into the Maldives by air yesterday.

Customs said the total weight of the seized items was 8.5kg, with an estimated street value of MVR 6 million.

Authorities did not disclose the country of origin of the shipment, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

The seizure follows several recent drug interceptions by Customs. Late last year, officials intercepted an attempt to smuggle 40kg of hashish oil into the country by sea, concealed in bottles of chocolate syrup. Two men were arrested in that case.

Last month, Customs also seized 941 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of MVR 1.8 million.
