The interim order requested by Central Hithadhoo Constituency MP Ahmed Azaan regarding him filing defamation charges against the company that operates Dhauru News and Dhauru News editor Moosa Latheef has been approved by the Civil Court.

Azaan's legal team filed a defamation suit regarding Moosa Latheef's report under 'the police raiding Adhdhu and Azaan's experience', which includes which includes references involving Azaan.

The charge requests the removal or amendment of the report, and to order the report be changed to a draft status until the case reaches its conclusion.

The order publicized by the Civil Court today states that due to Moosa Latheef's report being in the state it is, anyone from the public will have access to it at any given moment and will be able to read it as they please.

The order also states that it is clear that Azaan's rights are to be protected as the case moves forward, and that with the order to change the report to a draft, the court does not believe that the defendant will face any damages.

And so, the order states that the publication status of the report be changed to 'draft' and to restrict access of the report to the public, along with it highlighting that this does not constitute deleting the report.

As per the order, there is a possibility that the claimant may be subjected to further defamation, as the report is expected to reach a wider audience over time and continue being circulated.

Azaan's legal team requested the Civil Court to determine that Azaan has in fact been subjected to defamation in Moosa Latheef's report and to receive compensation. The charge requests MVR 5,000 in compensation and MVR 28,670 in legal fees.

Moosa Latheef's report references Azaan regarding a question he had asked to former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President's Office and the events that subsequently occurred. The author of the report also compared the events to the Adhadhu News raid by the police.
