President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister in terms of consecutive days in office.

In a message shared on X, President Muizzu extended his congratulations to Modi on the milestone and reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to strengthening cooperation with India based on mutual respect, sovereign equality and shared interests.

Modi surpassed the previous record on Tuesday after completing 3,399 consecutive days as Prime Minister.

The previous record of 3,398 consecutive days was held by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

According to Indian media reports, several world leaders congratulated Modi after he surpassed the record.

Modi first assumed office in May 2014 and is currently serving his third consecutive term as Prime Minister.

India has recorded significant economic growth and major infrastructure development during Modi's tenure.
