Dr Mohamed Faisal, the first Maldivian doctor to specialise in the care of premature births, has joined the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), strengthening neonatal services at the country’s main tertiary hospital.

After completing his subspecialty training in Sri Lanka, Dr Faisal initially worked at the Haa Dhaalu Atoll Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

He has now transferred to IGMH to provide specialized care for premature babies.

Premature babies require treatment in neonatal intensive care units (NICU), and IGMH is home to one of the country’s most advanced NICU facilities for such care.

Dr Faisal has more than 20 years of medical experience and has previously worked at ADK Hospital as well as several island and regional hospitals across Maldives.

His appointment comes as IGMH continues to expand specialist services, including the introduction of new procedures and surgeries supported by modern medical technology.
