A "Calm Room" dedicated to passengers with special needs who utilize the services of Velana International Airport was opened today in Terminal 1.

In a statement issued by MACL, which operates Velana Airport, the company noted that as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts to assist individuals with special needs, a dedicated "Calm Room" has now been opened in Terminal 1 for passengers requiring special assistance or those with non-visible disabilities.

The facility was officially opened during a ceremony held today at Terminal 1 by MACL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. Senior officials from the Maldives Autism Association, Autism Care Maldives, and MACL participated in the event.

MACL stated that this is a significant milestone achieved as part of the company's ongoing efforts to establish special arrangements for passengers requiring special assistance traveling through Velana Airport, while working toward the key objective of making their travel environment one that offers the most fitting services.

The company noted that under the service introduced under the name "Boli", the "Calm Room" services will be available to passengers along with special arrangements.

MACL stated that the "Calm Room," established under the "Boli" program and designed in alignment with similar programs run at other airports worldwide, is equipped with sensory facilities tailored to reduce anxiety caused by the airport environment and to provide comfort for passengers requiring special assistance.

Various sensory items and activities geared toward individuals with special needs have been arranged in this calm room. Arrangements have also been made to allow at least one companion traveling with the passenger to stay in the room.

MACL stated that individuals requesting this service will receive a card along with a special lanyard. The company noted that the lanyard will make it easier to identify the passenger as someone requiring special assistance, allowing for expedited services to be provided.

"The company's goal is to ensure that all services provided at Velana International Airport are easily accessible to every passenger and are upgraded to higher standards," MACL said in its statement.
