President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to allocate MVR 7 million from the Green Fund yearly to take steps in protecting the environment.

During the President's message in celebration of World Environment Day, he stated that today is a day meant to strengthen the determination in protecting Maldives' fragile environment and to preserve it for future generations.

The biggest obstacle in identifying environmental changes, reducing the damage and steps to be taken has always been a lack of the required financial resources, said President Muizzu.

And so, the President stated that the decision has been made to spend MVR 7 million every year towards those efforts from the state's Green Fund.

"This funding will be in addition to the yearly budget allocation for the protection of the environment. With this, the importance that has been given by the Maldives Green Fund towards the protection of the environment in the years that have passed will be strengthened even further and will be taken to greater heights," as was said by President Muizzu.

The President went on to say that the funds will be spent on sustainably protecting the protected areas and the living beings that reside there.

According to the President, efforts will be conducted such as looking after the protected areas and the things that live there, conducting various environment programs by working together with environmental civil societies and environmental clubs in schools where the government will work to bring together as many participants as possible.
