A Bangladeshi man working in the Maldives has been arrested on suspicion of bringing his wife to the country, confining her in a room and forcing her into prostitution. 

The 30 year old Bangladeshi man is accused of human trafficking. The court yesterday extended his remand in custody by 10 days. 

Police said in court that the wife has told officers that she had been kept locked in a room, where she had been coerced into the sex trade. 

The man, who has appointed legal representation as well as a translator, denied all charges in court. 

The court order notes that some evidence supporting the charges has been submitted, including a police statement, and incident report and documents related to the victim. 

The man has been remanded for 10 days on grounds that he poses a danger to society. Police have not revealed any further details regarding the case.
