Husain Shaheed, who represents the Supreme Court on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), has been elected as the Vice President of the commission today.

The JSC announced Shaheed's election to the post in a post made on social media.

Judge Shaheed was appointed as a member of the JSC on April 7 last year.

The position of JSC Vice President became vacant following the resignation of Yazmeed Mohamed, who previously held the post, last month.

Yazmeed was on the JSC as a member appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Yazmeed was appointed as a member of the JSC on February 23 last year. He was appointed to the post after Mohamed Sameer, who previously served as the President's member, was removed from the position. The President brought this change at a time when the JSC was investigating cases involving three Supreme Court judges.

Around the time Yazmeed resigned from his position, an audio recording alleged to be his was leaked on social media. In that audio, a voice is heard telling people not to vote for the PNC in the last local council elections. The voice is also heard saying that cases involving individuals arrested in a drug-related matter could be settled before reaching the PG.
